If the grade allotted to the student is insufficient in meeting the thesis requirements, the student will be given the opportunity in the next semester/academic year to improve the thesis or complete an additional assignment. They were trapped in a cave where darkness ruled and very little light was shown. There only contact with mankind was echoes they heard from people passing by. What kind of life is this for these men? They had no understanding of life outside the cave. Plato later asks the question of one of these men being freed and getting a chance to see real light. How would this man react? How would he adjust to the light? This man finally was able to see the real images of life. After taking all of this in the man finally got to see the real light, the sun. Now his eyes are opened ! for the first time in his life. Then the man comes back to the cave. He has to readjust his eyesight to the darkness. He is now miserable because he is back in the cave along with the darkness. The other men said he spoiled his eyesight. Now the other men would try to kill anyone who tried to remove them from the cave. Was the trip out of the cave worth it? Would you give up everything you did? Everyday for something new? Therefore Nathan decided to do what anthropologists do when confused by a different culture: Go live with them. She enrolled as a freshman, moved into the dorm, ate in the dining hall, and took a full load of courses. And she came to understand that being a student is a pretty tricky job,too. Since everyone's campus experience is brand new and different, I am going talk about somethings she did not mention in her book. Moreover I would like to discuss something she mentioned, because I have an differing view on those things (Bryson 93). Rebekah Nathan intended to participate in every step of being a freshman. And she was trying to learn how to integrate into campus life, in order to touch students better. During this particular type of research, Rebekah Nathan tried her best to observe all the details around. For example, "at the first day of the new semester, every freshman had to go to the designated place, because they should check in and get keys of their dorms. While Rebekah Nathan got the key, her roommate was a little depressed, because she knew that her roommate was not a girl who got a similar age to herself. However, when Rebekah was looking at her roommate, her roommate was still smiling to Rebekah.This is only a part of her experiences, she also participated in activities as many as she could, on account of understanding students' thoughts. In addition, she tried to communicate with other students on her own initiative, as she wanted to know what they were doing everyday and how students manage their college lives. Nathan spend much of book discussing individual student experiences and not much time on peer groups. I consider that Rebekah Nathan does not involve every type of situations, hence I am going talk about something she did not cover (Nathan 56). Gym is the first step for me to learn of American undergraduate culture, because this place is a public place for all the students to exercise, no mater where you are from or what language you speak, students just play together. Additionally, in my opinion, it is more comfortable to playful learn, because it is a kind of leavening influence. For instance, when I just came to UConn, I was too shy to talk to any American student. However, one of my Chinese friends told me that I could go to the gym, people in gym were pretty nice and easy to talk, because when you were playing with them, it meant that you guys had same hobby, therefore it would be easier to communicate. After I arrive at gym, I straightly walked to the basketball place, because I played it a lot when I was in high school, and it was also my most adept movement. I stood on the sidelines, a little while, some American students ask me if I wanted to play together, I said" Sure!"with nodding. During the game, a strong guy ran me down incautiously, but he put the ball down and help me up rapidly with saying" Sorry." From the se point, I found that American students were greatly friendly in human behavior. In Finding Forrester an average sixteen year old boy is going through his life with some obstacles, and he carries them through very well. Jamal Wallace, coming from the playground on the streets, gets accepted to attend Mailor- Callow, not only for his skills on the basketball court, but also for being a gifted student. Jamal loves to write and read books, but never has any serious help in that area. While just going along with his life as the average student, he is very talented on the basketball court-Until he meets an older man by the name of William Forrester. William is a very talented writer who is famous, but hiding from the world. William Forrester is a man hidden from the world just as Jamalââ¬â¢s intellectually gifted ability was. Williamââ¬â¢s a well-known professional writer, but does not get out or publish books anymore. He stays hidden and away from the world as much as possible; and doesnââ¬â¢t want anybody to know where he lives or that he is still around, as he likes to stay recluse. But Jamal comes along, it all changes slowly but surely. William and Jamal come together by writing when William helps him out at random with a paper and notes of William. So William did help with Jamalââ¬â¢s work and writing under certain circumstances. Jamal is not to let anybody know where Forrester lives or to ask questions about his personal life. They learn a lot from one another from writing and proof reading, yet being two opposite people. Jamal and William grow closer together through time and Jamal talks William into going out with him to a basketball game since he has not been out in so long, but William has an anxiety attack from this. So they leave and Jamal takes him to the Yankee Stadium as a great surprise. After that, William opens up to him, telling him about his life and why he is the way he is today, and all he is gone through that has affected him today. After that, William gives him essays of his own to help Jamal write his own as long as he didnââ¬â¢t use, or take out anything that was Williams work. Jamal ended up breaking the promise that tested their friendship that they have grown to have. A teacher of Jamalââ¬â¢s that he has not got along with through his school year for the teachers arrogance. Mr. Craward studies Jamalââ¬â¢s work hard and found the mistake he had made of taking Williams work and busts Jamal for copying work that could result in Jamal losing his scholarship and everything else he earned. If William did not help him through the situation and say that Jamal had his consent of using his work. William didnââ¬â¢t want anything to do with him or help because of the mistake Jamal made on his own for breaking their promise which was hard for Jamal to do in the first place. Jamal wrote a letter to William that he received the day the time for the charges were going to be against him for stealing work. William ended up taking his side and helping him out in front of everybody which was a task on its own for him. Everybody now knew Jamal and William knew one another and William was now in the open. William thanked Jamal for his friendship because he couldnââ¬â¢t have done this without him. Now he can go live his life like he should have been all because of Jamal. He rekindles his life, and a year later William passes way leaving all his stuff to Jamal for everything he has done for him to go out and live the rest of Williamââ¬â¢s life. No matter your age or how old you are or where you come up from, you can make changes on peoples life in the best of way just by making that certain friendship.

Many tragedies, deaths and other popular actions take place everyday around the world, and we the people, count on media to cover these accounts in full detail. News articles and the media are two topics that go hand-in-hand with each other when discussing the perception of a world topic. Giving the media this power to describe the account also gives them the power to one-side any particular story. Often false accusations are made and wrong people are blamed, for no other reason than the media pointing fingers in wrong directions. The media also has the power to confuse, for as one media program might cover an account to be the blame of one man and another media program to be blame of another. The media has been given too much power with influencing the thoughts of people across the world. Take in à à à à à The war with Iraq has sparked many different views and perspectives in the media world. Such popular topics of discussion with broadcasters and reports have been: Is Busch to blame? Is the War really necessary? Is the US sticking its nose where it shouldnââ¬â¢t be? And so the list goes on forever and ever. With such a popular international topic such as this, the media has the power to break it down to every little aspect as long as the viewer is interested. Who is the decision maker, who is the one that chooses who is truly at fault? How do we know the media doesnââ¬â¢t change views based on which country its news is broadcasting in? With America at war with Iraq, do American televisions say Iraq kills 10 U.S. soldiers, while an Iraqi one states that U.S. invades country to take over? à à à à à The heart of any media article or report is in the tone, perspective, and content. Although both of these articles are one two different specific sub-topics, they are both on the same topic; and with sharing the same topic they also both share the same tone. They both share the same perspective of a guilty Iraq. As for the content; they are mostly similar except that the second article, ââ¬Å"Pentagon: 110 U.S. Troops Killed in Iraqâ⬠, is a little more enlightened towards the U.S. taking some blame. The two pieces of media material I have reviewed share many similarities yet many differences in tone, perspective and content. Both of these pieces cover basically the same topic of the war in Iraq. Every single day, in every location of the world, there is crime going on. Crime does not only happen in one specific area, for that reason it is an issue all across the map. There are various major global crimes and criminal issues that have a global impact on national and international justice systems and processes that every individual should be knowledgeable about. Comparing and contrasting the various international criminal justice systems and how these major global crimes and criminal issues are addressed only helps individuals understand every justice system all around the globe. The justice system, in every country, is drastically impacted on a regular because of the many global crimes and criminal issue occurring. Drug trafficking, fraud, smuggling, extortion, terrorism, money laundering, gangs, briber, and cyber crime are just some examples of global crimes that are seen in this world. Although all global crimes are serious and cause issues the global drug trade is one that is an ongoing and is currently a multi-billion dollar industry. Every day, all around the world drugs are being made, but it is only in certain countries that large quantities of drug trades are made. Specific drugs are mainly found within only certain countries but as for Marijuana it can be produced worldwide. Marijuana is a drug that is easily produces so it comes to no surprise that it can be obtained worldwide. On the other hand individuals will find that different drugs are found in different areas of the world. For drug buyer is looking to buy opium poppies used to produce heroin, Myanmar, the Golden Triangle Burma, Thailand and Laos, Pakistan, Iran, and the Golden Crescent Afghanistan would be the places of interest for the buyer. On the other hand when it comes to the drug cocaine, South America would be the buyerââ¬â¢s place of interest. As can be seen these drugs all are produced within third world countries reason being the production of these drugs helps these countries economies by bring more money whether it be illegally or not. This is where a conflict comes in, with each country having different points of views on drug trade it is hard to enforce drug laws if all countries are not eye to eye. In order to improve the overall effectiveness of strategies the law enforcementââ¬â¢s from other countries needs to work together to try and come up with strategies and ways to take down the drug trade. The political and social structure has a major effect on the widespread of certain crime. Each country being diverse makes this vary from country to country. ââ¬Å"For example, in middle-income and developing countries, homicide is far more prevalent compared to nations with higher incomesâ⬠(Shaw, et al, 2004). Research reveals that nations that have high rates of homicide tend to be accompanied by social and political unrest, where crime organizations tend to run the country more than the politiciansâ⬠(Shaw, et al, 2004). ââ¬Å"On the other hand, there has been a dramatic decline in the rates of robbery among nations included in North America compared to other nations of the worldâ⬠(Shaw, et al, 2004). Within the criminal justice system another thing that varies from country to country is the way criminals are tried and detained. This difference seen is based on the different social and political structures that are made for each country. Research has revealed that most nations follow a civil law system, which is typically based on Roman law structures, in which a person can be punished as soon as a sufficient amount of evidence proves that a person is guilty of a crimeâ⬠(Oââ¬â¢Connor, 2011). ââ¬Å"This varies from the common law systems, where innocence is assumed prior to proving that a person is guilty of a crimeâ⬠(Oââ¬â¢Connor, 2011). ââ¬Å"More common in nations, such as Iraq, Afghanistan, and Iran, the Islamic law system is directly based on the Koran, which is often interpreted as a harsher law system compared to other law systems utilized by other nationsâ⬠(Oââ¬â¢Connor, 2011). In most cases the law system that is being used within the country is one that reflects on the beliefs and standards of that particular county. Overall, this helps individuals of a certain country understand what exactly would be considered a crime within his or her country. When looking at countries one by one a difference can be established. One example is ââ¬Å"seven of the eight nations that are included in the group of Caribbean nations have been affected by colonial rule for centuriesâ⬠(United Nations Programme Development, 2012). This colonial rule has caused their criminal justice system to be based on British common law, as well as national statutory lawsâ⬠(United Nations Programme Development, 2012). ââ¬Å"Their courts are also structured in a manner that is similar to British courts, where there is a magistrate court, a high court, as well as a court of appealsâ⬠(United Nations Programme Development, 2012). Although all individuals tried in court receive a fair trial, juries are normally only used in serious criminal trials. The correctional system is another part of the criminal justice system that varies from country to country. Although many countries correctional systems are somewhat similar to the one in the United States, they all vary from place to place. In Jamaica, law enforcement depends on the probation system in order to rehabilitate criminals who pass through their punitive systemâ⬠(United Nations Programme Development, 2012). Within other nations that are included in Caribbean nations both probation and parole are commonly used to rehabilitate criminals (United Nations Programme Development, 2012). On the other hand research shows that nations with little crime such as Switzerland, have little crime is because there are wealth of social institutions that help to ensure that each citizen is well provided for (Oââ¬â¢Connor, 2011). Crime is going to continue to occur every day, no matter the location of the world. The various major global crimes and criminal issues that have a global impact on national and international justice systems and processes will continue to impact each and every country unless a pact is made. No two countries are the same and for that reason no two criminal justice systems will ever be in agreement, but becoming aware of these differences will only helps individuals understand every justice system all around the globe whether it be the United States or China.
